Moonlighters History

HISTORY PAGE 1.jpg

In June of 2015, Len and The Moonlighters held their final Cape Cod performance in the Bay View Room of Sandwich Hollows Country Club. In October of 2015 Len and Donna Savery moved to The Villages, as full-time residents, where they had spent the previous four winters as “Snowbirds”.

Soon after becoming a full-time resident, Len continued to perform with 2 local music groups (The Wednesday morning Jazz Workshop, and Paul Collins’ Thursday morning dance band).   Thanks to the help of well-known Villages musician Dave Czohara, Len was able to join a mostly musicians golf group. Through these affiliations, Len was able to put together a Villages version of The Moonlighters. The new band held Its first rehearsal in February of 2017.

Since that first rehearsal, the band has performed many times at various venues here in The Villages, including: The Eisenhower, Seabreeze, and La Hacienda Recreation Center Ballrooms, The Music Showcase at The Savannah Center, The 50th. Anniversary Ball at The Savannah Center, Saint Timothy’s Church Hall, The Ballroom at Dell Webb for their Veterans Club and their recent Military Ball, Post 347 American Legion Hall, and The Wildwood Community Center.

Members of the band also volunteered their time and talent (June of 2021), for a performance to benefit Marie Bogdonoff’s Villagers for Veterans.  Another similar benefit performance for Villagers for Veterans was held on March 27th. in the Carmen Miranda Room, at the LaHacienda Recreation Center.

The Moonlighters continue to rehearse most Thursday Evenings (September-mid June), 6:30-8:30pm in the Julio room at the LaHacinda Recreation Center.
